VIRGINIA BEACH - On Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2010 at 4:23 p.m. our mother, mother- in-love, grandmother, grandmother-in-love, great-grandmother, sister, sister- in-law, aunt, cousin and dear friend, Shirley E. Jones Mosley transitioned from this life to life eternal.

Shirley was born Nov. 3, 1939 to the late Mary Lee and Jerry Jones. She accepted Christ as her Savior at an early age and joined the New St. John's African Methodist Episcopal Church. She served as the president of the Clara R. Davis, Nurses' Unit.

Shirley was employed by the Virginia Beach Social Services Department, and after 30 years of service retired. Some of her many affiliations included: marshall and past matron of St. Alethia No. 83, Marshall of the Year Award 2005, chairperson, St. Alethia No. 83 Auditing Committee, past ritualistic chairperson District Council No. 34, past grand deputy organizer administrative deputy Order of the Eastern Star, past grand worthy matron, Royal Perfection Matron LOCOP, life member Phyllis Chapter International Order-FPC, Region 1 director Phyllis Chapter International Order, president-leader Council United Order of Tents, Virginia Beach, treasurer-Royal Degree Chamber No. 3, leader - Silver Leaf Tent No. 354, Virginia Beach, past queen-daughter of ISIS Arabia Court No. 23, honorary past illustrious commandress Arabia Court No. 23, member and queen of the International Longshoremen's Ladies Auxiliary No. 37.

She leaves to cherish her most fondest memories one daughter, Charlotte A. Mosley; four sons, The Rev. Rufus L. Mosley Jr., (Exhorter Danita), Jerry Mosley (Barbara), Azarah Mosley and Dion Mosley (Sharon); 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lucille Melvin (Raymond) and Alice Cooker (Harry); two sisters-in-law, Elnora Willie and Mary Lee Young (Bobby); three friends who were sisters to her, Erma Ames, Marjorie Holley and Norma Bell; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and two fur children she so loved, Joseph and Omar (the dogs).

The transition service for Mrs. Shirley Mosley will take place Monday, Aug. 9, at 12:30 p.m. at the St. John's African Methodist Episcopal Church, 545 E. Bute St., Norfolk, with The Rev. E. H. Terrell Jr. officiating. A motorcade will be leaving Woodlawn Funeral Home, 6329 E. Virginia Beach Blvd., Norfolk, at 11:45 a.m. to proceed to the church.

Family will receive friends Sunday, Aug. 8, from 2 to 5 p.m. at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 6329 E. Virginia Beach Blvd., Norfolk.

The Rev. Rufus L. Mosley Jr. will receive friends at his residence, 1949 John Brown Lane, Virginia Beach, VA 23464 the days leading up to Sunday.
