Joseph (Joe-Dee) Duran passed away Monday, February 21, 2011. Joe's passion for life and love of his family sustained him through 8 years of pain and suffering. He was born July 13, 1933 in Holman, New Mexico, the son of Fidel T. and Ermalina Mondragon Duran. Joseph lived in Nevada and New Mexico until moving to Bingham at the age of 12.

During his youth Joe was a golden gloves boxer. At the age of 17 he enlisted in the U.S. Army Special Forces during the Korean War. He was proud to be a veteran.

In 1956 he married Leeann DeBouzek and together they had eight children. Joseph supported his family while working at Kennecott for 34 years where he was an electrical lineman. He was a tireless leader and a strong advocate for children. In Midvale he was a Cub Scout master, coach and in 1972 started the Midvale recreation basketball program.

He is survived by his wife, Leeann; children, Andrew, Richard, Christopher, Angela, Jody, Anthony, Robert and Mario; 21 grand-children and 9 great-grandchildren; also 2 brothers, Manuel and Max and 1 sister, Rose.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 26, 2011 at St. Florence Catholic Church in Huntsville.

The family would like to thank Crestwood Care Center for taking care of our "Fightin Joe."

Interment at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Salt Lake City.
