Wynne Folk, 98, formerly of Wagner Road, Butler, died February 16, 2003 at Brethren Care Center, Ashland.

He was born October 24, 1904 in Indianapolis, Indiana to the late William and Stella (Cook) Folk. He was graduated from Indianapolis Latin School in 1921. After graduation he served in the US Army Air Force in Hawaii. Following his service to his country he attended a trade school where he learned the art of aircraft tool and die engineering. Wynne used his engineering skills to aid his country during WW II when he designed assembly lines for the Army Air Force in Ford and Chrysler Plants. Wynne was one of the proud innovators of the air-refueling system and retired from the industry in 1967 after 46 years of service.

He and his first wife Earsel Leota (Estill) Folk, whom he married 1926, lived in the Butler area for many years, and later moved to their home in La Quinta, California.

Wynne was a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge #376 F&AM in Bellville, and was a former member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. He was an avid reader, wood carver, and amateur painter. Wynne enjoyed sending homemade cards to friends and family.

He is survived by his daughter and a son-in-law Norma J. and Richard Layer of Ashland; a daughter-in-law Martha Clever Folk of Springfield Missouri; ten grandchildren and their spouses David and Louise DeLong, Linda Valdez, Richard and Kathy Folk, Peggy Brooks, Susie Le Marbe, Nancy and Jeff Nippes, Mike and Angela Williams, Deborah and Dan Brownlee, Kent and Mary Ann Layer, Charles and Sheri Layer; seventeen great grandchildren; six great great grandchildren; his second wife Leona Bunnett Folk; two step sons and spouses The Rev. Robert and Florence Bunnett, and the Rev. Thomas and Thekla Bunnett all of Southern California.

He was preceded in death by his first wife; his daughter Lola Faye Brewer; a son William Edward Folk; two brothers Ray and Jesse Folk; and a sister Faye Grider

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Local arrangements are under the direction of Snyder Funeral Home, Bellville.
