LINDAMOOD, Fred A., 85, of Rural Retreat, died Saturday, February 24, 1996 in the Birdmont Health Care Center in Wytheville, Va. He was born in Rural Retreat, the son of the late Elbert Mason and Margaret Dutton Lindamood. He was a prominent Wythe County farmer and cattle dealer, co-owner of the Rural Retreat Land Company and auctioneer for the Wytheville Livestock Market for 45 years. Mr. Lindamood served as Mayor of the Town of Rural Retreat from 1952 to 1954 and served as chairman of the Democratic Party (1960 - 1962 & 1965). He was a lifelong member of the Rural Retreat United Methodist Church, where he served as Sunday School Superintendent for 32 years (1958 - 1990), served on the Board of Stewards, a Certified Lay Speaker and chairman of the Wythe County Lord's Acre Association. He is survived by his wife, Margaret M. Lindamood, of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Ralph Stidham of Roswell, Ga.; one granddaughter, Jill Christina Stidham of Roswell, Ga.; two sisters, Helen Stinson of Talbotton, Ga., Ina Vaught of Wytheville; and several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 27, 1996, at 11 a.m. at the Rural Retreat United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Robert Countiss and the Rev. George Jones officiating. Interment will follow in the Mountain View Cemetery. The body will be taken to the church one hour before service time. The family will receive friends at the Lindsey Funeral Home from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday or at the residence at any time. The family suggests that those who prefer may make memorial donations to the Rural Retreat United Methodist Church. Lindsey Funeral Home in Rural Retreat, Va. is in charge of arrangements.
