Lucille Mae (Keane) Prinzing, age 90, of Northfield, Minn., died on Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2011, at the Northfield Care Center. Lucille was born June 3, 1920, in St. Paul, Minn., to Thomas and Myrtle (Larson) Keane.
Following graduation from St. Paul Park High School in 1938, she worked as a switchboard and information operator in St. Paul for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company until 1944. She was also a member of a drum and bugle corps, marching in the St. Paul Winter Carnival and the Minneapolis Aquatennial. While living in St. Paul, she was active in Girl Scouts as a member and leader.
She married Raymond Frederick Prinzing June 3, 1944, in St. Paul, Minn., and then moved to Forest Township of Rice County, where they farmed for many years. Following Ray's death in 1975, Lucille remained on the farm for nine years and moved into Northfield in 1983.
Lucille was very active in her community and church and was recognized for her community service during Jesse James Days. She served as a 4-H leader, belonged to the Forest Township Extension and was a 50-year member of her community card club. Lucille was instrumental in reactivating the German Union Cemetery Association and served as treasurer for many years. She sang in the church choir at Trinity Lutheran Church and was a member of Lutheran Women's Missionary League (LWML), holding offices including Christian Growth chairman at the circuit level and a four-year term as Minnesota South District recording secretary. She also enjoyed sewing, baking and photography. Besides volunteering, Lucille worked part time in food service at Carleton College and at various gift stores in Northfield.
Lucille is survived by her two daughters, Karen (James) Lacey of Green Bay, Wis., and Joanne (Vilnis) Giga of Owatonna, Minn.; six grandchildren, John (Dana) Lacey, James Jr. (Sophia) Lacey, Joseph (Mari) Lacey, Julie (Ben) Ehlers, Mark (Whitney) Giga and Erik Giga; and eight great-grandchildren.
Lucille was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; an infant daughter, Jeanette; a brother, Thomas; and a stepsister, Zella Beth Shaw.
Funeral services will be Monday, Feb. 28, 2011, at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, Northfield, with the Rev. Armand Boehme officiating. Interment will be in German Union Cemetery, Forest Township, Rice County.
Visitation will be in the Boldt Funeral Home, Faribault, on Sunday, Feb. 27, 2011, from 2 to 5 p.m. and also in the church for one hour prior to the services on Monday.
Memorial gifts may be directed to German Union Cemetery or the donor's choice.
