David Jacob was a Confederate P.O.W. Veteran. Jacob enlisted in the 65 Reg't North Carolina Cavalry Company D., July 8, 1862, by Capt. Joseph Hardin. He was captured in Big Hill, Kentucky July 30, 1863 while on a raid with Col. Scitt. He arrived at Camp Chase Ohio Prison No. 3 the 7th of August 1863. He was transfered to Fort Delaware, Delaware, February 29, 1864. Released from Fort Delaware June 19, 1865. While at Camp Chase Ohio he wrote a letter to his parents David and Susannah Rowland of Ashe Co. North Carolina dated February 18, 1864. He stated that nine men of his Company D. was there. All were well except one or two. This letter is still in the Rowland family along with his Family Bible. Jacob and Charity are buried in the Riverside Church Cemetery near Sinclair Bottom.
