Son of Nathaniel Searle and Experience Warner of Massachusetts, he was the youngest of four children. He married Amelia Pomeroy October 10, 1826.

Came to Onondaga Valley NY in 1847 and built a house at what is now the corner of South Salina Street and Brampton Road. The house still exists. The next street south is Searlwyn Road, which is named for him.
