Dorothy Edward Shelton "Tex" – "Dee"

BRIGHAM CITY – Dorothy Edward Shelton, 83, died Monday, December 3, 2007 in Brigham City.

He was born April 6, 1924 in Cass County, Texas to Clement Chapman and Sally Hall Shelton. He was the seventh in a family of nine children. His father died when Dorothy was eight years old, and his mother a while later. The family grew cotton and worked the red, red land on their farm in east Texas.

He joined the U.S. Army during World War II and fought in Europe where he earned two Purple Hearts. He participated in the Battle-of-the-Bulge under General Patton.

Following the war, Dorothy returned to Spanish Fork where he worked with his brothers in the dry cleaning business. While in Spanish Fork, he met and married Elaine Hamilton. He was father to David E. and Dorthea. He later owned Shelton Cleaners in Brigham City.

He was Commander of the American Legion in Spanish Fork and a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Dorothy enjoyed deer hunting with his brothers-in-law, cruising on his Gold Wing and having coffee at J & D's with the Windbreakers, but especially spending time with his family. It didn't take very much to make him happy.

Surviving are his son and daughter-in-law, David and Patsy Shelton, Pleasant View; daughter and son-in-law, Dorthea and Merlin Gray, Salt Lake City; his best friend Elaine, Brigham City; seven grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and one brother, Ennis.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his in-law parents, Anne and Dwight Hamilton, and seven siblings.

Services were held Thursday at 12 Noon at Mountain View Memorial, 3115 East Bengal Boulevard (7800 South), Cottonwood Heights.

Friends may call at Gillies Funeral Chapel, 634 East 200 South, in Brigham City, on Wednesday evening from 6 to 7:30 p.m. and on Thursday at Mountain View Memorial in Cottonwood Heights from 11 a.m. to 12 noon. Interment: Mountain View Memorial Park.

Funeral Directors, Lindquist's Ogden Mortuary.
