Mrs. Charlotte Phebe Sherwood died this noon at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. May E. Milk, at the age of 59 yaars. She had been ill for two weeks with Bright's disease.
Charlotte P. Ferris was born in New Milford, Conn. May 22, 1841. In 1857 she married Charles D. Sherwood and shortly afterward removed to Minnesota while it was still a territory. Mr. Sherwood was a leading republican and was speaker of the house and lieutenant governor for several terms. In 1878, the family removed to Franklin County, Tenn. where Mr. Sherwood founded the town that now bears his name.
After Mr. Sherwood's death in 1895, Mrs. Sherwood came to Kankakee and made her home with Mrs. Milk.
Deceased was long a member of the Presbyterian churc and was a member of the First Presbyterian church of Kankakee.
The surviving children are Mrs. May E. Milk, Jay E. Sherwood, Flora Sherwood and Benjamin W. Sherwood, all of Kankakee. Deceased also leaves a brother, C. H. Ferris of Sherwood, Tenn.
