Alfred J. Kennedy, the son Martin Kennedy and Elizabeth Rout Kennedy (Clancy), was born in Whitestone, NY, where he lived all his life. He had an illustrious career as a postmaster, state assemblyman, state senator, and Public Administrator for Queens County. He served in the Spanish American War and became a leader in the United Spanish War Veterans, serving as commander in 1937-1938.

He was survived by his wife, Anna, and his children Francis, Cyril & Raymond. He was brother to Margaret Kennedy; and Mary, Kate, Peter, Chester & Robert Clancy. He is remembered through the Spanish-American War memorial at Main & Northern streets in Queens and P.S. 193, the Alfred J. Kennedy School.
