Funeral services for Donald Moon, ex-prisoner of war, will be 10 a.m. Friday at the Floral Haven Funeral Home Chapel. Moon, 69, died Tuesday. Burial will be in Floral Haven Cemetery. A Kansas native, Moon was a World War II bomber plane belly gunner. On Feb. 13, 1945, his plane was shot down in Vienna, Austria. He was found and almost hanged by the citizens of Vienna until his rescue by the German army, who believed he was the airplane's radar man. He was then imprisoned. He was in seven different prison camps until his release on June 1, 1945, by Gen. Patton's army. Moon was an independent pipeline welder until his retirement in 1983. A Mason, he was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, National American Ex-POWs and New Haven United Methodist Church.
