Sam was the son of Dr. W.L. and Lela Jane Covey. They lived in Sherwood (1928) and they had a filling station and grocery then moved to Mertzon and had a grocery, ice house and cafe. He was County Commissioner in 1940's ( information courtesy of the Irion County Hist. Society. taken from the Irion County History C. 1978 He married Ona Mae Pearce in 1919 in Plains, TX. had the Mertzon Drive in Theater.
