Wardie was born March 31, 1920 in Fillmore, Utah to Earl Wendell and Florence Maude Wade Trimble. After attending Granite High School, she married Clarence B. Canning on August 9, 1941.
Wardie worked at Safeway for thirty years and was a member of the Amalgamated Meat Cutters Union. She held many LDS Church callings and worked in both the Salt Lake and Jordan River Temples for many years.
An avid sports fan, she was especially fond of the Utah Jazz. Although she never admitted it, she had a long-time crush on her favorite player, John Stockton. Wardie's grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of her life; she always looked forward to seeing them.
She is survived by her sons Earl (Noreen), Dennis (Kathy), Steven (Carole), eighteen grandchildren, and thirty-seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, February 24, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 South State Street (100 East), where friends and family may call on Wednesday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and Thursday from 10:00-10:45 a.m. prior to the services.
Interment: Holladay Memorial Park.
