Son of the late Henry L. and Ruth Underwood, he was the widower of Brenda Joyce Herbert Underwood, his wife of 52 years. He was survived by his daughter, Renee Hardy (Bill); son, Dennis Underwood (Patricia); grandchildren, Christina Barry, Georgia Underwood and Jason Underwood; three great-grandchildren; and an extended family of relatives. He was a veteran of the United States Army. He was retired from Shaw Industries. He was a member of Crosspoint Church of God where he served as a greeter. His funeral was held on February 16, 2011, with The Rev. Clayton Brown and The Rev. Stan Lester officiating.
