Pat was one of the Marines who landed on Iwo Jima and was present at the famous flag-raising photo event. He helped build LST's at the Evansville shipyard. These vessels were used during WWII to support amphibious operations by carrying significant quantities of vehicles, cargo, and landing troups directly onto an unimproved shore.
