Maggie was the daughter of Joseph Absolam Hammersla and his second wife, Indiana Amelia (Morris) Hammersla.

Joseph Hammersla is listed in the 1890 Special Census for Hedgesville, Berkeley County, West Virginia. In it he states that he enlisted as a Private in Co. B, 1st Maryland Cavalry, U.S.A. in Jan. 1865, and was discharged in July 1865.

Maggie married William Curry Logan Dugan (10 Nov 1855 - 20 Dec 1936) on 24 Feb 1896 in Little Georgetown, Berkeley County, West Virginia.
