Age 80, died on February 19, 2011, surrounded by her loving family at Compassionate Care Hospice at St. Francis Hospital.

Daughter of the late Joseph F. Sr. and Johanna M. Sullivan, Marie was born on May 1, 1930 at St. Francis Hospital in Wilmington DE, and raised in Carneys Point NJ where she graduated from St. James Grammar School and High School. Marie returned to St. Francis Hospital to attend the School of Nursing and pursue her dream of being a nurse. She graduated first in her class as a registered nurse and embarked on a 34 year career at St. Francis Hospital, highlighted by her genuine passion for quality patient care and a legacy of friendships with colleagues from all over the hospital that have lasted a lifetime. After retiring, Marie continued her service to St. Francis Hospital as an active member of the Junior Board and with her support of multiple charitable endeavors. She carried the spirit of St. Francis Hospital with her throughout her life. Marie was an extraordinary person, strong in faith, in love, and in laughter.

Marie was predeceased by her beloved husband of 56 years, Richard M. Walsh Sr. in 2010, and her sister Jean F. Chomo. She is survived and dearly missed by her children Michael J. Walsh II, Eileen M. Walsh, and Richard M. Walsh Jr. and his wife, Alicia M.; 3 grandsons, Richard M. III, Joseph L., and Thomas P. Walsh; her sister, Margaret M. Roeske; her brother Joseph F. Sullivan Jr. and his wife Jacqueline F.; her brother-in-law Robert R. Walsh; many cousins, nieces and nephews.

The Walsh family would like to thank the St. Francis Hospital and the Compassionate Care Hospice doctors, nurses and staff for their loving care of Marie.

A viewing will be held from 6-8 pm, Thursday, February 24 at the MCCRERY AND HARRA FUNERAL HOME, 3924 Concord Pike, Talleyville, (Route 202, south of Silverside Rd.). The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am, Friday, February 25, at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church, Concord Pike and Sharpley Rd., followed by interment at Cathedral Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests sending a memorial contribution to the St. Francis Foundation, 701 N. Clayton Street, Wilmington DE 19805 or Compassionate Care Hospice at St. Francis Hospital, 702B Kirkwood Hwy., Wilmington DE 19805.
