He was born on June 25, 1924, in Brookfield, Mo., to Earl Frederick and Ethel Gertrude Tate Crowder. He married Margaret DeBorn on Jan. 20, 1950. She preceded him in death on Sept. 23, 1987. A veteran of the U.S.Army, he was self-employed as a upholsterer.
He was a member of O.B.Nelson Post #3 of the American Legion and Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars and Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #114.
Surviving are two daughters, Sherry Long of Booneville, Mo. and Carla Sammons (Crowder); two sons, Michael(Barb)Crowder and Kenneth Crowder, both of Ottumwa; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brothers, Roy Crowder, and a sister, Alice McFarland.
Funeral services will be 10 am Thursday at Reece Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Hornback officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery with military services conducted by Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars and O.B.Nelson Post #3 of the American Legion. Visitation begins at 10 am Wednesday at the funeral home with the family present from 6-8 pm Wednesday. Memorials may be made to Hospice, Ottumwa, Iowa.
