CHARLOTTE - Michael Edward Scates, 32, of 1500 Winston Drive, died Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2003, at his residence.
A native of Gaffney, he was the son of Henry Lee Scates of Gaffney and the late Sarah Elizabeth Scates. He was of the Baptist faith and a food service tech.
Surviving in addition to his father are a sister, Lisa Harris of Charlotte; a brother, Nick Lee Scates of Gaffney; and maternal grandfather, Irvin Phillips of Gaffney.
In addition to his mother, Mr. Scates was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Walter and Ruth Scates, and maternal grandmother, Dora Phillips.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6-9 p.m. at the home of Henry Scates, 119 Christopher Drive, Gaffney.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cherokee County Children's Home, P.O. Box 1896, Gaffney, S.C. 29342.
