The Jacob Oates shown in this photo is not the father of Daniel and Elizabeth Swartz Messick Oates. The dates do not match the stone. If the dates don't match, they can't be forced to.
This is Jacob, son of Christopher Oats and his wife, Eliza (Eaton) Oats. Please consult the 1860 Hampshire Census, pg. 21, and see Jacob, son of C(hristopher). Both Jacobs were born in 1815/16 but Jacob of C lived in Hooks Mill, which is close to Timber Ridge and Jacob, father of Daniel, lived in Pleasant Dale, a distance away from Timber Ridge. This picture should be removed along with Eliza's, too. I have her funeral card from my uncle's possessions and she died in 1906 at age 91. Her grave is unknown.
Jacob of C and Eliza Oats, daughter, Parthenia, is buried nearby, which proves further this is the wrong information.
Jacob's, father of Daniel, grave has not been located. I have visited their farm on Dunmore Ridge Rd. & walked around a bit and never found a gravesite.
