Ralph Hargis
DOWNS (PNS) — Ralph Hargis, 80, of 201 Cleveland St.. Downs, formerly of rural Normal, died at 12:40 a.m. Saturday (April 23. 1983) at his residence. His funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. today at Metzler Memorial Home, the Rev. Fred Belcher officiating. Burial will be in Hopewell Cemetery, Downs.
He was born July 28, 1902, at Filson, a son of George and Miranda Miller Hargis. He married Henrietta Mae Cunliffe June 8. 1929, in Bloomington. She died Jan. 14, 1982.
Surviving are five daughters, Ruth Stilley. New Castle. Ind.; Barbara Richert Baton Rouge. La.; Helen Loper, 1711 Arrowhead Drive. Bloomington; Goldie Shierry, 1234 Dogwood Lane Bloomington; Becky Rouse. Downs; a son, Ralph A. Champaign; three sisters. Mae Hauser and Helen McFarland, both of Hudson; and Gertrude Hemmele, 512 S. Evans St., Bloomington; two brothers, Ray, Farwell. Mich.; and Earl, Iuka; 17 grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.
A son and a sister preceded him in death.
Mr. Hargis attended the Downs United Methodist Church. He was a member of Teamsters Local 28 and for more than 24 years, a member of Normal Volunteer Fire Department.
He was a mechanic with Normal Sanitary Dairy, later the Pure Milk Association, for 25 years. He retired in 1964.
