OBITUARY IN MOLINE NEWSPAPER DATED NOVEMBER 18, 1907:

"TRIBUTE OF FRIENDS AT FUNERAL OF JOHN CRAIG

Early Settler in Carbon Cliff Laid at Rest in Bowlesburg Cemetery -- Born in Kentucky in 1826 -- Five Children

John Craig, old settler and at one time prosperous farmer at Carbon Cliff where he settled about 1854, died in a hospital at Peoria Nov. 14, of apoplexy.
He was born in December, 1826, at Lexington, Ky., removed to Indiana when a small boy and to Illinois as a young man, and made his home here since, much of the time in late years having been spent with relatives near here. His wife died about fifteen years ago.
He leaves three sons, Winfield and Julius of Chicago and Charles of Caldwell, Kas., and two daughters, Mrs. Dora McDonald of Denver and Mrs. Maggie Cobbel of Longmont, Col. The sons from Chicago attended the funeral which was held at Bowlesburg church Saturday afternoon. Rev. Mr. Parker of Watertown had the services and selections were sung by Mrs. Harry Nicholson, the Misses Bunts and Rev. Mr. Parker: "My Jesus as Thou Wilt," "Jesus Lover of My Soul," "Rock of Ages." The sermon text was "Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour when the Son of Man cometh." Pallbearers were...old friends: William Mitton, John Hennegan, Perry Beckwith, William Perry, John Bisant, Squire Silvia..."
