Myra Neale Collier, 84, died at home peacefully on her birthday, Sept. 8, 2008, following a courageous battle with cancer.
Graveside services will be at 1:15 p.m., Sept. 12, 2008 at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. Visitation will be at Porter Loring Thursday, Sept. 11, 2008 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Myra was born Sept. 8, 1924 in Teague, Freestone County, Texas to the late Raymond and Maggie Butler. She graduated from Teague High School in 1942 and moved to San Antonio. On August 2, 1946 she was united in marriage with Elmer Roy Collier; they were happily married until his death in 1991. They were members of Palm Heights Methodist Church before they transferred to Jefferson United Methodist Church in 1958. She was active in the lives of her children through the Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts, and especially enjoyed being Granny for the past 30 years.
Mrs. Collier resided in San Antonio until 2005 when she moved to Azle.
Survivors include her son and his wife, John and Heather Collier of Gleneden Beach, Oregon; daughter, Lois Ingram of Belton; daughter and her husband, Carol and Kurt Haman of Azle; grandchildren, Samuel Collier, Rebecca and husband Mark Blomer, Michelle Collier, Joshua Johnson, Jesse Haman, Chris Ingram and Amanda Ingram; great-grandson, Sean Blomer; sister, Dorothy Cameron of Teague; and sister-in-law, Jean Collier of Austin; nieces, Linda Welch, Pattie Sue Williams, and Dorothy Ann Austin; other relatives and many friends, including her faithful dog, Chloe.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital or the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
