M. B. MOODY is a native of Henry County, Ky., born October 13, 1818, to Richard B. and Lucy B. (Woodside) Moody. Blanks Moody, father of Richard B., and grandfather of M. B. Moody, a native of Virginia, was a Revolutionary soldier, was wounded at Braddock's defeat by a musket ball,
and was carried to the house of a rich planter, where he remained until he recovered; the planter turned out to be his uncle. Mrs. Lucy B. Moody was a native of Virginia, and a daughter of John Woodside. At the age of seventeen, M. B. Moody, owing to illness of a senior brother, who usually did the trading, began to go south with the stock, mules and horses, etc. On the first trip he took twenty-eight head of horses and mules for his father; he told him to give him $77.50 per head, and he might have all over
that amount. So from this trip our subject cleared $360. He has been very successful with stock of all kinds, and is also engaged in agricultural pursuits, having a fine farm of 700 acres between Eminence and New Castle. He also had a beautiful residence, which was destroyed by fire a few
months ago. His property is the result of his prudence and industry and affords him the means to gratify the benevolent traits that distinguish him. June 21, 1842, he married Letitia Olds, of Carroll County, who died
November 21, 1842, and he then married Margaret Calloway, of Henry County,daughter of Richard Calloway. Four children blessed their union: Florence, Lucy Wilson, Georgia E. Crabb and Henry G. Mr. Moody and all his family
are members of the Christian Church.
