Rev. Willie B. Battle, Sr.
The Rev. Willie B. Battle Sr., 70, of Lorain, died Friday at St. Joseph Hospital and Health Center after a brief illness.

Born in Huntsville, Ala., he was a 32-year resident of Elyria.

Rev. Battle was a member and associate minister of New Bethel Primitive Baptist Church, Lorain, and until recently served as pastor of Hartfield Primitive Baptist Church, Cleveland.

He retired in 1979 as custodian with Lorain Journal.

Survivors include his wife, Viola, to whom he was married 48 years; daughters, Irene Carter, Glenda Foster, and Chaplain Florida, all of Lorain, Alice Jackson of SPencer, and Sylvia Young of Honolulu; sons, Willie B. Jr., and Ernest G., both of Lorain, and Harry Lee of Centralia, Ill.; 23 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and sisters, Jannie Burnett of Lorain and Catherine Burnett and Caroline Robinson, both of Huntsville.

Friends may call 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday at Carter Funeral Home, Lorain.

Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday in New Bethel PBC with the Rev. Cornelius Spraggins, pastor, officiating.

Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Lorain.
