Bernie was born July 2, 1924, in Pana, Ill., to Paul and Hilda (Sahr) Endris. Bernie served in the U.S. Army during World War II in Europe with the 106th Calvary. After his time in the service, he attended college at St. Louis University and University of Illinois at Champaign, Ill. He married Mary Lou Endris on Feb. 18, 1950, in Springfield, Ill., at The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. Bernie worked for Swift & Co. in Arkansas and La Crosse and later for La Crosse Concrete Co. where he retired in 1985.
Bernie is survived by his wife, Mary Lou, of almost 61 years; and his four children, Paul (Vicki) of La Crosse, Ed (Patty) of La Crosse, Mark (Rhonda) of Hillsdale, Wis., and John (Ivy) of Holmen. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Dana, Angela (Anthony) Subjek, Cali Jo, and Nick Endris; as well as two stepgrandchildren, Brad Metzger and Nicole La Forte; plus two nieces and four nephews.
A Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 10, at St. James the Less Catholic Church, 1032 Caledonia St., La Crosse. The Rev. Roger Scheckel will officiate with entombment to be held in St. Francis of Assisi Mausoleum at Catholic Cemetery, La Crosse. Family and friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until time of Mass in the church on Thursday.
Memorials may be directed to St. James Endowment Fund at 1032 Caledonia St. in La Crosse.
Blaschke& Schneider Funeral Homes are assisting the family with arrangements.
The family would like to thank the Onalaska Care Center staff for Bernie's exceptionally compassionate care over the past four years. Bernie loved life and will was admired and loved by many and will be greatly missed.
