Mills was the son of Joseph L. Blackwood and Jeanette Sprague.

Funeral services for the late Mills R. Blackwood, 50, were held at the funeral home, Jan 31, 1940 at 2 pm......Burial in the town Cemetery (South Lyon)....

Mills R. was born Aug 16, 1889 on the farm three miles east of S. Lyon. He was the son of Jospeh I and Jeanette Sprague Blackwood. After his graduation from the local high school in 1908, Mrs. Blackwood attended MSC, Lansing, for a year and then the U of M for 2 and a half years until poor health forced him to give up his studies.

Fifteen years ago they moved to the farm just east of S. Lyon where he and his sister Miss Jessie Blackwood, had since made their home. His father died in 1927; his mother in 1934. He was a member of the Congregational Church of Salem. He is survived by his sister, an uncle and aunt, Charles Sprague and Mrs. Charles Grawn, the latter residing in Detroit.
