OBIT: Wesley T. Newson, 72, of Shell Rock, died early Sunday evening, Nov. 16, at the Waverly Municipal Hospital. He was born on January 7, 1903, in Daggett, California, the son of John and Lydia (Haass) Newsom. They moved to Mojave, California where he attended school and later went to work for the railroad. Wes later worked for the General Petroleum Company in Lebec, and on April 25, 1925 he was married in Las Vegas, Nevada to Grace Thompson. They lived in Bakersfield and in 1937 moved to Los Angeles where he worked for the railroad until 1948 when they moved to a farm near Shell Rock, Iowa where they farmed until 1961 and in 1963 they moved into Shell Rock. He was the Shell Rock City Clerk for six years and was a member of I. O. O. F. Lodge No. 270 of Shell Rock. Mr. Newsom was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and two brothers. He is survived by his wife, Grace; two sons, Robert Newsom of Prairie Village, Kansas and Wesley of Waterloo, and by one daughter, Mrs. Bert (Grace) Rinear of Garrettsville, Ohio, nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A memorial Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 19, from the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Shell Rock with Rev. Lynn A. Potter of the Linden United Methodist Church in Waterloo officiating.
