GUETTNER , LEONARD HATFIELD (JIM) - age 84 of Kingston passed away Wednesday April 19, 2000 at Roane Medical Center. He was a member of Union Chapel Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and was a trustee at the time of his death. He was an Army veteran of WWII. He served in the 106 Field Artillery Battalion where he fought many battles including the battle at Okinawa which is remembered as one of the greatest battles of the Pacific. He retired from Union Carbide Y-12 Corporation(Nuclear Division) in Oak Ridge in 1974 after 28 years of service. He was a member of the American Legion. Preceded in death by his first wife, Evelyn Ward Guettner , His brothers, Elmer, Perry and Ed Guettner and sisters, Blanche Farmer and Gladys Johnston. Survivors include: wife, Thelma Bailey Guettner of Kingston; step sons, John and wife, Brenda Guy of Dandridge, Tenn. and Tom Guy of Woodstock, Ga.; brothers, Frank and Bill Guettner both of Kingston; grandchildren, Stacy Hagerty and Kenneth Guy; several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be held on Friday April 21, 2000 at 8 p.m. in the Kyker Chapel with Rev. Ronnie Nicholl, Rev. Johnny Gray and Rev. Raymond Brown officiating. Burial in Poplar Springs Cemetery on Saturday at 11 a.m. withfull military honors by the Roane County Military Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Friday at Kyker Funeral Home in Kingston.
