Miss Mary Engleton Lear, 79, who was born in Monroe County, Mo., died at 3 a. m., Sunday at the St. Joseph Hospital at St. Charles, Mo.
She had retired 10 years ago after teaching at Lindenwood College at St. Charles, for 40 years. She was head of the chemistry department and was given an honorary degree upon retirement.
Miss Lear was the daughter of Elijah and Mary Frances Willis Lear and belonged to the Madison, Mo., Christian Church.
Surviving are cousins only, Sam Cornelius, Mrs. Tura Foster and Mrs. Alphia Willis, all of Madison, and Mrs. Fannie Maude Roberts, Centralia, Mo.
Burial in Sunset Hill Cemetery at Madison, Mo.
