Chico Record, Saturday Morning, December 27, 1919, pg 4 col 3: Everet Bruce Claims Effie Hook As Bride. Miss Effie Verma [sic] Hook became the bride of Everet Bruce at a simple service performed at the Christian Church, by Rev. Galen Lee Rose yesterday morning.
The bride is the daughter of J.B. Hook, of Third avenue and Oleander street and a graduate of Chico High school. The groom, who is the son of Mr. and Mrs. N.H. Bruce, of Chico Vecino, is a veteran of the world war and is engaged in ranching.
After a honeymoon trip in the south for several weeks, the couple will make their home here.

Chico Enterprise-Record, Monday, October 9, 1961, p. 3A: "Effie V. Bruce. Mrs. Effie V. Bruce, who had made her home in Chico for several years, died at Enloe Hospital on Saturday. Mrs. Bruce was born in Oblong, Ill., on May 25, 1891. She moved to California in 1904 and established her home in Chico. Following her graduation from business college in Chico, Mrs. Bruce became bookkeeper for the Christopher Meat Market and later was bookkeeper for the stage line running from Chico to Westwood. For the past 31 years, Mrs. Bruce had been bookkeeper for Dr. E.L. Meyers. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Chico and also the American Legion Auxiliary of Chico.
"Surviving Mrs. Bruce are her husband, Evert, of Chico; a sister, Mrs. June David of Chico; a step-sister, Mrs. Glen Caywood, and a step-brother, Frank Wylde, also of Chico; three nieces and a nephew.
"Funeral services will be conducted in the chapel of the Brusie Funeral Home Tuesday at 2 p.m. and interment will take place in the family plot of the Chico Cemetery."
