Private, Co. H, 71st New York Infantry
Died in Service of disease
Last letter to his mother transcribed by Catherine Smith Hall: Richmond, July 13, 1862: Dear Mother, I take this opportunity of writing to let you know where I am and how I am getting along. I have been sick with the fever but I am now getting better. I was taken prisoner Sunday June 30th in a hospital near the Chickahominy river. We do not expect to be here long as there is some talk of our being parolled. I will now close. From your Aff Son Nelson Blackmore
