Fatally injured was Warren Dean (Lenny) Leonard , 1762 Chestnut Ave., radioman second class aboard the USS Sawfish,San Francisco.
Leonard was participating in a consolation race when the accident happened. Witnesses said the engine of the racer in front of Leonard caught fire and the burning vehicle "stopped on a dime."
The front wheels of Leonard's racer momentarily locked with the rear wheels of the vehicle in front then catapulted over the stopped racer.
Buddy was laid to rest on 05/30/1953. His mother was laid to rest next to him on 02/11/1992.
