Mathews, Velma E.(Vine) 91, passed away Feb. 7, 2010 with her loving family by her side at Porter Hills Village, Grand Rapids, Mich. Velma was born Jan. 3, 1919 to Orrin and Ida Vine. She grew up in the Crystal Valley/Hart area and then went on to graduate from the Hackley School of Nursing in Muskegon, Mich. Velma worked as a registered nurse for many years in the Pontiac, Mich. area and then made her home in Grand Rapids, Mich. Velma is survived by her husband, Roger A. Mathews; and daughter, Sharon (Gilbert "Butch" Haas). She also has a step-son, Larry (Leslie) Mathews. Velma's beloved grandchildren include, Heidi Haas-Shosten, Heather Cruz, Bryant (Margaret) Mathews, Lindsay (Jared) Schroeder and Andrea Mathews. Her great grandchildren are Suraya Shosten, Kaizer Cruz and Cela Cruz. Velma was preceded in death by her brother, Max Vine, and first husband, Clarence McKim.
