Henry Condray was born in east Tennessee (either Green or Grainger Co), the son of Eliphas and Christina (Widner) Condray. His family moved to KY ca 1815 and in 1821 to Jackson Co, IN. (From Stockdale History and Blue Valley)
He m. 1) Deborah Littler, 10 Mar 1832 Jackson Co, IN. She wa born 17 Jan 1815, Randolph Co, NC and died in 1835 in Jackson Co, IN. Henry and Deborah were the parents of Mincher and Catherine. Indiana Marriage Records give date of 24 Mar 1832, by J. Shoemaker, J.P.
He m. 2) Jane Stanfield, 5 Oct 1837 Jackson Co, IN. They were the parents of William, John and Tamar.
He m. 3) Mrs. Jane Stevens 17 Aug 1881 Riley Co, KS.
By 1850, he was 42 years old and had a farm valued at $1000.
Jane was 47 years old and the family consisted of Mincher, age 18; Catherine, age 16; William, age 10; Tamar, age 8; and John age 7, all born in IN. The 1850 IN census shows that both Henry and his father, Eliphas could read and write and that the children attended school that year. There is no similar entry for any other person.
"In 1855 he brought his wife, three grown sons and two daughters to the mouth of Mill Creek, Riley Co, KS. They took up a claim there of 160 acres, built a log cabin and began farming. They later built a stone house about 1/4 mile north of the creek. In 1857, Henry established a post office in his house, under the name of Henryville. It would continue until 1870. In 1872, it would reopen with the name Stockdale. Church was held in this home until a church was built in Stockdale.
Henry served as postmaster at Henryville until 24 Jan 1862, and then at Randolph from 7 Jan 1863 to 29 Sep 1865. The Henryville P.O. was relocated 29 Jan 1872 to the newly established settlement of Stockdale with Andrew Sweet as postmaster.
Henry operated a blacksmith shop. In 1861, he relocated to the mouth of Fancy Creek, and erected a saw and grist mill along with J.K. Whitson at Randolph. He also built the first stone house in the town in 1863. His son, Mincher, took over the Mill Creek farm."
