Geneva Van Fossan, 86, of Newton died Thursday, Sept. 23, 1999, at Newton Rest Haven.

Mrs. Van Fossan was born May 18, 1913, in Wayne County, the daughter of Perry and Nellie (Keyser) Shannon. She married Maynard L. Van Fossan in 1936. He died in 1973.

She was a second grade school teacher at Newton Grade School for many years and a teacher in Wayne County; member of the Illinois Retired Teachers Association, Eastern Star, Past Worthy Matrons Club, Newton Women’s Club, PEO Sisterhood and Grace United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her son, Ronald L. of Collinsville; sister, Genelle Thibodeau of St. Louis; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by two brothers and one grandchild.
