Gainesville--- Services for A. D. Skaggs, 79-year old Gainesville resident will be held at 2 pm Saturday October 9 in Huff Funeral Chapel in Whitesboro. He died Thursday October 7 1999 at IHC of Texoma in Sherman.
The Rev. Joe Patterson will officiate with burial in Collinsville Cemetery in Collinsville, Texas.
Mr. Skaggs was born on March 7 1920 in Gunter Texas, son of the late James Nathan Skaggs and Jessie Lola Wilson Skaggs. He married Billie E. Pierce on July 4 1940 in Collinsville Texas. She preceded him in death on January 23 1993.
He was a World War II Army veteran having served as a heavy machine gun operator. He received the American Theater Medal, Victory Medal, Purple Heart Medal with EAME, Theater Medal with three bronze service stars and 1st Oak Leaf Cluster.
He was the City Marshall with the City of Callisburg for 15 years and was a retired mechanic. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Surviving are his two sons, Dee Skaggs of Sherwood Shores and Eddie Skaggs of Callisburg; two daughters, Lola Holland of Walnut Bend and Janie Pike of Leona; four brothers, Charles Skaggs of Van Alstyne, Floyd Rollins of Houston, Lloyd Rollins of McKinney and Jack Rollins of Sherman; eight sisters, Joyce Mathis of Whitesboro, Mattie Gary of Pottsboro, Mary Swindle of Mesquite, Patsy Morris of Midland, Joann Honeycutt of Fort Worth, Myrtle MacAnally of McKinney and Mildred Harnest of Sherman ; 19 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren. The family will be at Huff Funeral Home in Whitesboro from 7 to 8 pm Friday October 8 1999.
