Came to Estherville in Ox Cart
Mrs. H. C. Coon, one of the earliest pioneer residents of Estherville, died at 6 p.m. yesterday [June 11, 1936] at her home on South Ninth street following a two-year's illness. She would have been 92 years old Aug. 18.
Mrs. Coon had been confined to her bed for nearly two years following a fall in which her hip bone was broken and from which she never recovered.
Mrs. Coon was born Aug. 18, 1844 in Smithfield, Alleghany county, New York and lived there until she was 12 years old when the family moved to Wisconsin. She later moved to Minnesota and came to Estherville by ox team and covered wagon in 1866.
Mr. and Mrs. Coon settled in Estherville and made their home here. Mr. Coon died eight years ago.
Being among the first families to settle in Estherville, Mr. and Mrs. Coon went through all the hardships of pioneer days.
Mrs. Coon is survived by three children, Mrs. E. I. Sondrol, Mrs. A. J. Davidson, and Charles H. Coon, all of Estherville, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the home and at 2:30 in the Methodist Episcopal church with the Rev. F. W. Ortmeyer in charge. Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery where Mr. Coon is buried. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, Iowa, June 12, 1936)

Funeral Services for Mrs. H. C. Coon [Elmira Lingenfelter], one of the oldest pioneer residents of Estherville, were held Sunday at 2 o'clock at the home and at 2:30 o'clock at the Methodist Church. Rev. F. W. Ortmeyer was in charge of the services. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Coon, who was 91 years of age, died at her home at 6 p.m. Thursday. She has been confined to her bed for nearly two years following a hip injury she received after a fall.
The deceased was born August 18, 1844 in Smithsfield, N.Y. She lived there until she was 12 years old when the family moved to Wisconsin. Later they came to Minnesota and came to Estherville by covered wagon.
Mrs. Coon was preceded by her husband in death eight years ago. She is survived by three children, Charles H. Coon, Mrs. E. I. Sondrol and Mrs. A. H. Davidson, all of this city, also grandchildren and great grandchildren.
