-VA gravesite locator∼Andrew Sheer is my 3rd great-uncle. He was the son of Michael and Elizabeth (Colenbaugh) Sheer. He was born around 1843 in Coshocton County, Ohio. Sometime between 1853-54, his family moved to Arney, Jefferson Township, Owen County, Indiana. At the age of 19, Andrew enlisted in Company F, 97th Infantry Regiment Indiana as a Private on August 13, 1862 in Owen County, Indiana. He was mustered out through Terre Haute, Vigo County, Indiana. He served field duty in the Civil War under the command of Captain George Elliott until his untimely death on December 8, 1863. Andrew died of a disease. In doing research I couldn't find if he was buried in Tennessee or if he was buried in Indiana. After years of looking, I finally discovered that he is buried in Tennesse. The reason why I was having trouble finding him is because he was buried under the wrong name. He is listed as John Andrew Shear. On the War Memorial by our Courthouse here in Spencer, he is listed as Andrew Shear. There is a star in the Soldiers Memorial Pavillion located in Riverside Cemetery with his name but unfortunately the person who crafted the star listed him as A. Spear. Years of frustration have finally come to an end and I am glad to finally know where this brave soldier was laid to rest. May he est in Peace. -Whispers From The Grave FIND A GRAVE ID 47262159
