Geneva Cockrell, age 87, passed away Thursday, February 17, 2011 in Lubbock. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, February 21, 2011 at the Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Ronnie Hedges officiating. Interment will follow at Floyd County Memorial Park under the direction of Moore-Rose Funeral Home of Floydada.
Geneva Ruth Connelley was born on Thanksgiving Day, November 29, 1923 to James Isaac and Millie (Hopper) Connelley in the Lakeview Community of Floyd County. She married John Hurlon Cockrell on December 18, 1943 in West Palm Beach, Florida. The couple moved to Floydada in 1946 and were blessed with two children, Janice and Ken. Geneva was a member of the Primitive Baptist Church in Floydada since she was 10 years old. She was a beautiful seamstress and a member of the Whirlwind Good Sam's Club.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Cockrell in February of 2009.
Geneva is survived by her daughter, Janice Payne Presson and her husband, Paul of Lubbock; her son, Ken Cockrell and his wife, Jackie of Irving; her grandchildren, Rachel Beggs of Lubbock, Matt Payne of Lubbock, Michelle Mayo of Irving, Bryan Cockrell of Irving, Ashley Breshers of Post and Paige Cox of Shreveport; 7 great-grandchildren and her niece, Glea Adams of San Antonio.
