Ruth married Cecil Parsons on September 24, 1932 in Howard County, Arkansas. Ruth and Cecil were 21 years old at the time of their marriage. Cecil was the son of Samuel & Nettie Lou Parsons. The Parsons family had lived in Howard County for many years, and had a lot of history in the county. Some of the later generations dropped the 's' from Parsons, but this generation kept 's'.
Cecil & Ruth began their family in August 1933, with the birth of their first daughter Jessie. Their next child was Shirley [1935] and then Muriel [1939] and finally a boy, Don in 1944. Their children lived around Howard County. Following their marriages the girls moved away from Howard County, but their son Don lived here. He became a prominent teacher, coach and high school principal before his death in 1979.
It is believed that Ruth attended only grade school during her life. Most of the children went to about the 8th Grade, which gave them about a high school education in today's world. In the book ‘The Unfinished Story of North Howard County' on page 119 is a picture purported to have been taken around 1910 at Saline School. A caption indicates Ruth [Parsons] is on the second row. This would have been before the birth of Ruth Garrison Parsons, but the date could be incorrect on the caption. The teacher is Charley Garrison, Ruth's father and related to several children in the picture.
Ruth and Cecil were Christians, and active members of the Church of Christ at Athens. The Church of Christ was very prominent in Howard County.
