Aug. 18, 1932 –– Nov. 11, 2010 Marilyn Edith Engler, 78, of Keokuk died at 5:05 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 11, 2010, in Keokuk Area Hospital.

She was born on Aug. 18, 1932, in Burlington, the daughter of the Rev. Alva T. and Anna Blanche Boston Browning.

She married John B. "Jack" Engler on Nov. 28, 1954. He preceded her in death on Nov. 19, 1983.

She moved to Keokuk in 1949 with her parents.

She worked for the Keokuk Community School District as a children's librarian.

She was a member of First Christian Church and was former CWF church librarian.

She was very active in the Lee County Republican Party.

Marilyn ran PTA paperback and Scholastic book fairs at Hawthorne Elementary School. Marilyn announced the games for Keokuk High School girls basketball.

She worked at the George M. Verity Riverboat Museum.

Survivors include: two sons, John Thomas Engler and his wife, Peggy, of Keokuk and Larry Frederick Engler and his wife, Kristine, of Donnellson; a daughter, Louann Jewell Engler of Hoffman Estates, Ill.; three grandchildren, Philip Engler of Keokuk and Kirstie and Paige Engler, both of Donnellson; a brother, Ross Browning and his wife, Betty, of Phoenix, Ariz.; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; and a sister-in-law, Eleanor Carter and her husband, Roger, of Keokuk.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers; two sisters; and her mother-in-law, Geneva Engler.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Christian Church, Keokuk, with the Rev. Geoff Mitchell officiating.

Burial will follow in Keokuk National Cemetery.
