Julia Maria Deline was born in Lenawee county, Mich. February 19th, 1838 and died at her home near Pompeii March 7, 1915 aged 77 years. She was one of the early pioneers, coming to Gratiot Co. 57 years ago. Sister Burt has been married twice, April 16th, 1854 she was united in marriage to Isaac Johnson of Lenawee County and to them was born a daughter, Mrs. Sally Smith of Pompeii. Mr. Johnson died Jan. 31st, 1856. She was again married March 30, 1859 to Benjamin Burt. To them were born six children of whom three are living, Mrs. Hettie Chase of St. Johns, John and Charles of Pompeii. She is survived by one brother, Wesley Deline of Bethany and one sister, Mrs. Ann Irving of Adrian, Mich., also eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren and a host of friends.
At the age of 14 years she was converted and became a charter member of the Methodist Episcopal church when it was organized at Old Pompeii.
She was a very faithful attendant seldom being absent even during her declining years this being made possible by the kindness of her son, John, with whom she lived, and she wanted to stay as long as possible that she might make a home for him. During recent years she had read the New Testament through 25 times besides reading the whole Bible through. The funeral was held at the church. Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. by Rev. John S. Biery Burial at Fritz cemetery. Dearest mother thou has fought Life's great battle nobly through For sixty years thou has walked By thy Savior kind and true. He has been thy stay and comfort Knowing all thy joy and grief As thou knelt in trusting faith Dear Kind Mother how we'll miss thee.
Miss thy gentle loving care, But the memory of thy faith Should help us live a life of prayer.
