Sgt. Bower was killed in action during the bombing raid, involving 35 bombers, on the Wiener Neustadt Nord Airdrome in Austria on April 23, 1944. Sgt. Bower was the radio operator of the B-24 SN 41-29326, piloted by 2nd Lt. George A. Swazey, Jr.
