Mrs. Ellen M. Lyle, 79, of Hickory, died Tuesday, September 1, 1970 at her home, after a long illness. She was born Feb. 23, 1891, in Mt. Pleasant township, a daughter of Samuel A. and Elizabeth McCarrell McCalmont, and spent her entire life in Hickory. Mrs. Lyle was a retired telephone operator in Hickory. She was a member of the Mt. Pleasant United Presbyterian Church and the Hickory Women's Club. Her husband, Clifford (Kip) Lyle died in 1957. Surviving are three brothers: S. L. McCalmont, A.P. McCalmont and D.M. McCalmont, all of Hickory; two sisters, Mrs,. Florence Robinson of McDonald and Mrs. Elizabeth Lyle, of Hickory. A brother, Leman McCarrell is deceased. Services will be held Friday, Sept. 4 at the Speakman Funeral Home, Houston. Rev. Ronald L. Oglesbee will officiate, burial in Mt. Prospect Cemetery - Observer Reporter, September 2, 1970.
