ARTHUR HIPKE, 96, RETIRED DRUGGIST, DIES
FUNERAL RITE PENDING FOR LONG-TIME CHILTON RESIDENT


Arthur S. Hipke, 96, a retired Chilton druggist, died at 10:30 a.m. Sunday at Calumet Memorial Hospital, Chilton. For many years the oldest active pharmacist in the state, he had resided at the Toth Nursing Home, Chilton, for the past 1 ½ years.

Mr. Hipke graduated from the Chilton High School and attended Oshkosh State Normal School, transferring to Northwestern University in 1885. He graduated from the school of pharmacy in 1890 and was active in the drug store he opened in 1898 until his retirement in 1960. He had resided with his son, Harold Hipke, at 45 E. Main St. Chilton, before moving to the nursing home.

Funeral services are pending at the Pfeffer Funeral Home, Chilton, and will be announced on Tuesday.

Funeral services for Arthur Hipke, 96, for many years the oldest practicing pharmacist in the state, who died Sunday at Calumet Memorial Hospital, Chilton, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Pfeffer Funeral Home, Chilton, Rev. Quentin Moeschberger officiating. Masonic memorial services also will be held. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Chilton.

Mr. Hipke, who was named “Man of the Year” in 1952 by the Chilton Association of Commerce, was married to Bertha Paulsen Sept. 20, 1894. She died in 1937. A member of the Chilton Masonic Lodge and Shrine, he was also active in the Kiwanis Club.

Survivors include two sons, Harold, Chilton, and Lester, Waycross, Ga.; two daughters, Mrs. Ruben Maples, Oconomowoc Lake, and Mrs. A. W. Wothe, Doylestown, Pa; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.

Friends may call after 3 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
