The Grass of Uncle Sam
Farming and ranching are all I know,
So I'll stay on the ranch and grow.
I'll dine on spuds and ham,
And play on the grass of Uncle Sam.

Horses, cattle, sheep and hogs, ten fold,
I'll watch them through heat and cold.
I'll see many calves and lamb,
Get fat on the grass of Uncle Sam.

After many days of tractor's roar,
There lay fields of wheat galore.
Each patch and plot made with plan,
Where stood the grass of Uncle Sam.

Where as a happy family we live and play,
And work together all the day.
We are a happy little band,
Well rooted to the grass of Uncle Sam.

So after seventy, eighty years or so,
To another home I'll go.
My soul in Jesus' hand,
I'll rest beneath the grass of Uncle Sam.
-Terrill Tollefson
