Funeral service was Monday, March 31 at the United Methodist Church at Inwood, IA. Rev. Linda Nicholson officiated. Burial was at the Richland Cemetery at Inwood. Visitation was Sunday at the Porter Funeral Home at Inwood.
John was born April 2, 1912 at Rock Valley, IA. He was the son of Tom and Jennie (Steck) Gerritsen.
John married Greta Vander Naald on February 6, 1935 at Hospers. IA. Together they lived at Hospers, IA, Rock Valley, IA and Fairview, SD. Before moving lo Inwood, IA. At Inwood, John worked for the Inwood CO-OP Elevator until his retirement in 1974.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Greta; five suns and their wives, Thomas and Marcella of Rapid City, SD, Kenneth and Margaret of Houston, Texas, John and Jackie of Portland, Oregon, Bill and Maria of Inwood, Iowa, Michael and Jean of Valley Springs, SD; four daughters and their husbands, Mrs.Wayne (Beverly) Zoerink of Fort Collins, CO, Mrs. Daniel (Dinna) Wentworth of Flandreau, SD, Mrs. Christopher (Kathleen) Moody of Downey, CA,
Mrs. Charles (Coralee) Knoblauch of Hills, MN; one brother and his wife, Albert and Eula Gerritsen of Charles City, IA; one sister, Ann Scholten of Hull, IA; thirty-one grandchildren; twenty-nine great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Ray Haan of Laurel, NE; two sister-in-laws, Nellie Groen of Des Moines, IA, Anna Mae Gerritsen of Rock Valley, IA.
John was preceded in death by two brothers, Casie and Bill Gerritsen; three sisters , Elizabeth Morgenstern, Tom Gerritsen, and Ida Haan, grandson, Jerry Gerritsen: half-sister, Nellie Koning; brother-in-laws John Scholten, Siebert Koning, and Guy Morgenstern.
