Ruth Elizabeth Doty, 87, was called home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 16, 2011 at 8:17 p.m. in Marion General Hospital, Marion.

Ruth was born on May 29, 1923, in Peru, Indiana, the daughter of the late John William Rentz and the late Emma Nettina Huck. She was the fourth and last child to be born to the union. She attended St. John's Lutheran School until the 8th grade where she was confirmed on Palm Sunday, 1937. She then graduated from Peru High School in 1941. She attended the International Business College in Fort Wayne, graduating with an Associate's Degree in Secretarial Science in 1942. Ruth married her late husband, James Edward Doty, also of Peru in 1945.

Ruth was a homemaker, active in the schools PTA as well as activities at St. James Lutheran Church where she was a charter member. Ruth served as an organist, completed lap robes with the Sewing Guild, and was a member of the Lutheran Women's Missionary League. Ruth became very active at the District Level of the Lutheran Women's Mission League and loved leading a women's Bible study and Sewing Guild.

She leaves her cherished memories to son, Robert (Barbara), Lubbock, Texas, daughter, Barbara (Gary), Marion; son, David, Montrose, Iowa; grandchildren, Kisten (Mrs David) Polyansky, New York; Robert (Rebecca) Doty, Houston, Texas; Morgen Doty Philadelphia, Penn.; Douglas (Christina) McClure, Brownstown; Christine (Trael) Kelly, Greenwood, Amy (Fonso) White, Indianapolis, Matthew (Teneal) Doty, Donnellson, Iowa; and Rachel (Adam) Benda, Ft. Madison, Iowa; great-grandchildren, Cooper and Eloise Polyansky; Jackson Doty; Mason, Max and Maren McClure; Cooper, Quinn and Cade Kelly; Maddox, Maren and Macie Doty; as well as Aiden and Rowan Benda and two more "on the way". A friend and sister-in-law, Vera Doty, Ft. Wayne, also survives as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by brothers, George and Norman; sister, Miriam, as well as a daughter-in-law, Jean Doty.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Febuary 19, 2011 in St. James Lutheran Church, 1206 N. Miller Ave., Marion, Indiana with the Rev. Mark Carlson officiating. Private graveside burial will be in St John Lutheran Cemetery.

Raven Choate Funeral Home, 1202 Kem Road, Marion, Indiana are handling the arrangements.
