Dixie L. (Barker) Barksdale passed away Feb. 14 at Mountain View Medical Center in Payson. Born May 25, 1930 in Elsinore, Sevier Co. Dixie raised a family in Moab and moved to Payson for advanced medical care in 2007. She was one of five children born to Fawn Lenore (Braithwaite) and Aaron Glen Whitney. She married Dwain C. Barker in Provo in June 1950. They lived in Tropic, Monticello and Moab and had four children (divorced 1979). She married Bruce Warren Barksdale in Richfield in October 1980. They lived in Provo, Price and Moab. Both her husbands had served in World War II. She graduated with the Provo High School Class of 1948 and in Moab owned and operated KURA-AM radio. She served many roles in civic, church, governmental and political organizations, including Moab City Council, director of the Grand County Travel Council, Moab Chamber of Commerce president, and as a professional economic development specialist for the Southeast Utah Association of Local Governments and Mountainland Association of Governments (Provo). She was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, a daughter, and both husbands. Survived by daughters ViviAnn (Barker) Rose and Vicki Joan Barker, of Moab; her son Whitney Dwain Barker, Los Angeles; brother Ronald Whitney, Payson; and sister Francis Marie (Whitney) Oertle. A memorial is planned for 11 a.m. Sat. Feb. 19 at the Payson West LDS Stake Center, 780 W. 500 South; and in Moab on Tues. Feb. 22 at 1 p.m. at the LDS Chapel on Locust Ln.
